Vestavia Hills' Rooflines Since 1950
Vestavia Hills incorporated on November 8, 1950, taking its name from a Shades Mountain hilltop home built in 1925 in the style of the Roman Temple of Vesta for former Birmingham mayor George B. Ward. Most of the city's housing was built up the mountain's slopes over the following decades, with rooflines and gutter runs that follow the terrain rather than a flat grid.
